DO’s (What to DO)

  • Do be polite and respectful – Courtesy and good manners go a long way.
  • Do queue in line – Always wait your turn in an orderly manner.
  • Do speak softly in public – Loud conversations are considered impolite.
  • Do dispose of rubbish properly – Use bins; Singapore takes cleanliness seriously.
  • Do return your tray after meals – A civic habit in hawker centres and food courts.
  • Do use both hands when giving or receiving items – A sign of respect.
  • Do dress modestly when visiting religious sites – Cover shoulders andknees in temples, mosques, and churches.
  • Do remove your shoes when entering some religious sites – Check the notice board outside the mosques or Indian temples for guidance
  • Do try local food at hawker centres – Experience authentic flavours like laksa, chilli crab, and rojak.
  • Do stand on the left side of escalators – Keep the right side free for walking.

DON’TS (What to AVOID)

  • Don’t chew gum in public – Import is restricted; improper disposal is a fineable offense.
  • Don’t eat or drink on public transport – This is strictly prohibited on MRTs and buses.
  • Don’t jaywalk – Always use pedestrian crossings for your safety.
  • Don’t vape – Singapore has a strict no-vaping policy
  • Don’t disrespect religious or cultural practices – Be mindful in diversesettings.
  • Don’t bring durians onto public transport or hotels – The strong smell is not allowed.
  • Don’t smoke outside designated areas – Smoking zones are clearly marked.
  • Don’t take photographs of children without permission – Always ask forconsent.
  • Don’t disturb or feed wildlife – Respect nature, especially in parks and reserves.
  • Don’t touch people’s heads or point with your index finger or feet – Considered rude in many Asian cultures.
  • Don’t wear revealing attire in religious sites – Dress appropriately as a sign of respect.
